Writers would be obligated to accurately represent any settings that they are writing about that are actually places around the world. Otherwise, readers who live in those areas may be dissatisfied with the accuracy of the representation of those settings provided by the book. For example, if a reader is reading the book in Australia, and the book depicts Australia as a desert without much population, the reader would become severely dissatisfied with the accuracy of the book, and may refuse to read the book.
Writers can address these ethical obligations to their readers and stakeholders by making sure they accurately describe real places that they think they're going to be writing about. For example, a writer might look up a tourist picture of the place they're describing, and then describe it according to the picture to make sure there aren't any issues there. Then, readers who read the book will be delighted with how accurate the representation of the place is from the book. The quality and popularity of the book will thus be enhanced.
